Silicone-Free Skincare
Silicone-free moisturisers and sunscreens, with no dimethicone or other silicones anywhere in the ingredient list.
Why some people avoid silicones
Silicones such as dimethicone and cyclopentasiloxane give skincare its silky slip and help sunscreen spread evenly. They are well studied, considered safe, and rarely irritate.
People skip them for other reasons: some dislike the smooth, slightly coated feel, find silicone products pill when layered, or want to rule them out while working out what is breaking them out. Evidence that silicones clog pores is weak, but if you would rather avoid them, these picks list none.
How we check
We look for any silicone in the ingredient list: names ending in -methicone or -siloxane, and silicone-coated ingredients such as silica dimethyl silylate. We go only by the ingredient list, so we leave out lists that look cut short. Of the 860 products we have full lists for, 447 qualify.
Silicone-Free Moisturisers
Moisturisers with no dimethicone or other silicones in the ingredient list, for anyone who prefers a less "slippy" finish or wants to rule silicones out.
